Number of schools connected to internet hits 1,200 in Azerbaijan
Equipping comprehensive schools with information and communication technologies and increasing the quality of education are among top priorities of the Ministry of Education. ‘The State Program on the provision of comprehensive schools of the Republic of Azerbaijan with ICT’, which was approved by the president’s order in 2005, has been executed towards achieving this goals. At present, ‘The Program for the informatization of the education system for 2008-2013’, approved by the President’s order in 2008, is being implemented in Azerbaijan.
This information was provided to ICTnews by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. According to this information, as a result of activities implemented within this program 33,708 computers, 2,809 projectors and notebook sets were provided to comprehensive schools as well as 4,000 netbooks were given to pupils during the last year.
In 2011 a pupil-computer ratio constituted 1:20 compared to 1:1,063 in 2004. 75,000 people, working as teaching, technical and administrative personal at educational institutions, have completed ICT training courses.
At the same time, special electronic teaching tools have been developed and introduced in educational institutions. The Ministry of Education has begun the implementation of ‘e-School’ project. The number of schools connected to internet reached 1,200, which makes 26% of all schools in the country.
