Expansion of digital TV broadcast leads to rise in number and quality of TV programs
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of the Republic of Azerbaijan has held broad discussions with heads of associations and organizations in connection with activities being currently implemented for the introduction of digital TV broadcasting in Azerbaijan.
In the course of the meeting the Minister of Communications and IT Ali Abbasov spoke about importance of accelerating the process of the introduction of digital TV broadcasting in the country. ‘At present, digital TV broadcasting covers 85% of the population of Azerbaijan.
This result has been achieved through the activities implemented within the ‘Program of implementation and development of the DVB-T digital television broadcasting system in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan’, which was approved by the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers’ of February 10, 2011.
It is very important to accelerate the activities that are being implemented in our republic in order to cover its entire territory with digital TV broadcasting by the end of this year’, Mr.
Abbasob said. It was mentioned during the discussions that unlike analog broadcasting, digital broadcasting insures high quality of reception of all TV programs in all residential areas of the country.
The importance of enlightenment of the population on issues related to the transition to digital broadcasting and its advantages over analog broadcasting was also stressed at the meeting. Besides that, proposals were made to bring digital TV-sets and digital broadcasting equipment to the country and to implement necessary measures for producing this equipment in Azerbaijan.
The questions connected with the transition of regional TV companies to digital broadcasting were also discussed at the activity. It was noted during the discussions that the Ministry of Communications and IT and the National Television and Radio Council had agreed to take step-by-step measures to cease the broadcasting of all analog TV programs by the end of this year.
