Regions of Azerbaijan to be covered by fiber-optic lines by the end of 2012
Optic line length of 600 kilometers was laid in the frame of the project on expansion of broadband Internet in rural areas, Aztelekom Production Unit reported.
The production unit involves 7 private Internet service providers to the project, 5 of which have already begun to implement the project. Fiber-optic cable was laid in the direction of 11 telecom units with length of 200 kilometers through the efforts of private providers.
According to forecasts of Aztelekom, all the villages in Azerbaijan will be covered by fiber-optic lines by the end of the year. The operator plans to bring broadband services and services based on them directly into the homes of end users.
Services of AztelekomNet broadband internet are provided in 52 cities of the country. Currently, all district centers are connected to the cable line TAE (Trans-Asia-Europe).
The number of broadband connections in Aztelekom network increased by 42 percent from the beginning of the year and reached 74 000. It will be able to achieve the goal if the subscriber base for broadband services to be increased to 200,000 units (at an average cost of services - 15 manat).
All this occurs on the background of income decrease of operator, which is due to reduced consumer traffic on the network operator, which is now increasingly migrate to mobile networks. Therefore, broadband services and additional services based on them will be an additional source of revenue for Aztelekom.
