Postage stamp depicting founder of Azerbaijani dramaturgy Mirza Fatali Akhundov released into circulation
This year Azerbaijan will be celebrating the 200th anniversary of birthday of a great Azerbaijani writer, materialistic philosopher, public figure and founder of Azerbaijani dramaturgy Mirza Fatali Akhundov.
The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has already issued an order in this regard, under which special activities will be held in the country in order to commemorate Mirza Fatali Akhundov’s literary creativity as well as to analyze his life and activities through the prism of the 21 century.
As part of these measures, new postage stamps featuring this Azerbaijani genius thinker have been released into circulation on the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies’ order. This information was provided to ICTnews by Riad Alekperov, the chief editor of the “Azermarka” company of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
According to him, 100,000 postage stamps, which were printed in the Republic of Belorussia and are costing 20 gapik a piece, have already been released into circulation. Let’s note that the Republic of Azerbaijan, as a sovereign state, issued its first postage stamp in 1919. By issuing this postage stamp, which is considered one of the attributes of an independent state, Azerbaijan, as a sovereign republic, consolidated its statehood and promoted its authority.
