Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies prepared action plan for development of broadband Internet in Azerbaijan
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies has prepared an action plan for the development of broadband Internet in the country, the department head of Development of Information Society at the Ministry Isbandiyar Aliyev told journalists. Aliyev said the implementation of the action plan with the main purpose to bring fibre optic to the residences both in the capital and regions, is envisaged for 2013-2015. He said the action plan provides the necessary infrastructure for the provision of high speed Internet. The minimum speed should be at least 10 Mbit /s in the regions and 30 Mbit /s and above in the capital. Aliyev said the 10 per cent increase in the number of broadband Internet users will enable a rise of the GDP by 1.8 per cent. An increase in the number of broadband Internet subscribers by 1000 will lead to the creation of 70 new jobs. When it comes to the cost of Internet access, Aliyev said that it has been reduced by about 30 times within the last five years and the amount of AzNet network traffic reached 200 Gbps.
