Newly established commission under Press Council to consider online media complaints
Azerbaijan’s Press Council has established a commission on news websites and portals.
Chairman of Azerbaijan Press Council Aflatun Amashov said that the number of internet news sources is increasing in the country and existing realities dictate the council to function in this direction. He said that the commission will study the media complaints and undertake an obligation to research hacker attacks on websites and online media.
“About 30 appeals have already been received from portals, they want to be members of the Press Council. The number of internet media complaints to the Press Council is increasing. 7 complaints were received in 2011, while 20 complaints in 2012. The first meeting of the commission will be held this week, the complaints will be considered,” he said.
Deputy general director of Trend Information Agency Vagif Sharifov, head of Journalists’ Trade Union Mushfig Alasgarli, E-media specialist Elnur Baimov, APA Holding president Vusala Mahirgizi and journalist Azar Hasrat have been elected as members of the commission.
