MCIT receives heads of Lithuania-based IT companies
A meeting with representatives of the Lithuanian Business Confederation (LBC) and heads of Lithuania-based IT companies took place at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
During the meeting the president of LBC Valdas Sutkus stated that the ICT sector in Lithuania has already reached a high level of development. He said that Lithuania produces IT products and delivers them to the European market. “The country holds the 3rd place in the world in terms of the speed of the Internet. The Internet covers the entire territory of Lithuania. We know that Azerbaijan also declared ICT a priority. In addition to that, industrial parks are now being built in Azerbaijan.
We want to familiarize ourselves with the IT sector in Azerbaijan, because this country is a regional leader in the ICT sphere.” The deputy minister of communications and information technologies Iltimas Mammadov, in his turn, spoke about activities implemented in the ICT sector in Azerbaijan.
“2013 was declared the year of information and communication technologies in our country. Azerbaijan’s first telecommunication satellite was launched into orbit at the beginning of this year. In this connection, the spectrum of activities implemented within “the ICT year” will be expanded. Optic cable is now being laid to the most outlaying villages. Upon completion of this work, the entire territory of the Republic will be covered with the broadband internet. In future, Lithuanian and Azerbaijani IT companies might jointly produce ICT products and share their experiences in this sphere.”
