Volume of e-trade and mail traffic increases in Azerbaijan
The number of orders placed through the Internet has increased in Azerbaijan. As result of this increase, the share of mail traffic operations in the total volume of all postal operations has grown significantly.
This information was revealed to “ICTnews” online news service by the head of the Postal Sector of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies Novruz Mammadov. According to him, Azerbaijani citizens are getting more interested in purchasing goods through the Internet.
“The high quality of the Internet in the country and people’s growing confidence in the postal system played a significant role in this trend. This year the volume of mail traffic increased by 52.9 percent compared with the first quarter of last year. Speaking in terms of figures, during the first quarter of 2012 the number of mailings totaled 68,533 units. And this year this figure has already reached 104,118 units.
Over the past year, the number of mailings has grown by 50-60 %. And we expect this increase to double in 2013. The Cabinet of Ministers is going to pass a resolution to increase the volume of customs duty reliefs. If so, the total volume of goods ordered by Azerbaijani citizens from abroad will go up by several times.
Today, citizens of Azerbaijan show growing interest in all components of the ICT sphere. Information and communication technologies is a sector, which is used by everyone on a daily basis. That is why the popularity of this sector among the population will continue to grow in future.
