Internet management issues to be discussed in France
The Next meeting of the European Council’s Expert Committee on cross-border flow of Internet traffic and Internet freedom (MSI-INT) is expected to be held on 3-4 July 2014 in Strasbourg, France.
Note MSI-INT was established under the Steering Committee on Media and Information Society (CDMSI) with the aim of preparing human rights-based standards to protect and preserve the unimpeded cross-border flow of legal Internet content in 2014-2015 years. MSI-INT explores best practice and standards to optimize access to the Internet in light of the freedoms of expression and association as guaranteed by Articles 10 and 11 of the European Convention of Human Rights and in accordance with the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights.
The two-day meeting will discuss proposals on MSI-INT’s work plan, draft recommendations for the cross-border flow of Internet traffic and Internet freedom, as well as issues related to internet governance, internet freedom and other issues. The event is expected to be attended by the advisor of OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Michael Unland, representative the European Council’s Information Society Department for human rights and rule of law Loreta Vioiu and the head of the Media Division of the European Council’s Information Society Department Silvia Grundmann.
Azerbaijan will be represented at the event by the head of the Legal and Human Resources Department of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies Bakhtiyar Mammadov. During the meeting B. Mammadov will make a presentation on the internet projects that are currently being implemented in Azerbaijan. He will also provide the gathering with thorough information on the Azerbaijan - European Council cooperation in this area.
