Up to 20 per cent of businesses staying away from cloud
Businesses are still not fully embracing cloud computing, according to new research from IT services provider Computacenter.
According to the research, 20 per cent of organisations have fully virtualised systems, often seen as the first step into cloud services. However, only 28 per cent of the total want to move any of their workloads to the cloud this year.
A further 20 per cent of businesses have no form of cloud in-house at all. Andrew Vize, Computacenter's propositions and strategy director, believes that the fact that many companies are concentrating on being ready for cloud but not implementing it is no surprise.
"The majority of companies are still focused on becoming ‘cloud-ready' and virtualising infrastructure, ensuring that systems are prepared for the cloud before making the leap," he said.
Vize attributes the fact that some IT decision-makers are not looking to transfer to the cloud, or become cloud-ready, to the idea that "many corporate infrastructures are simply not ready for a full-scale switch to cloud computing". Over 200 IT decision-makers were questioned at the Cloud Computing World Forum for the research.
