Joint meeting of the RCC Commission on postal service and the Council of the RCC Postal Operators held in Baku
The joint 41/30 meeting of the RCC Commission on postal service and of the Council of the RCC Postal Operators was held in Baku on 6 May 2016. The agenda of the meeting, which was held under the chairmanship of the head of the Postal Sector of the Telecommunications and Mail Department of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan Novruz Mammadov, included the discussion of the state of implementation of the Action Plan on execution of the decisions of the 25th Congress of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), consideration of general proposals for the 26th UPU Congress, preparation for the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the RCC, etc.
UPU regional projects coordinator for the countries of Europe and CIS Yury Spiriyev provided the gathering with information on the results of the final UPU workshop on "The quality of service and improvement of the logistics network in Europe and CIS countries", which was held with the organizational support of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), Regional Commonwealth of Communications (RCC) and the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan (MCHT).
Then, the representative of UPU made a presentation on the topic of "Strengthening mutual cooperation and joining efforts for the development of the postal sphere in Europe and the CIS countries." Yury Spiriyev also recalled the need for the preparation of a draft regional plan for development of the countries of the region, covering the years 2017 – 2020, which will be presented to the 26th UPU Congress to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, from 20 September-7 October.
After that, the reports of the working groups, including plenipotentiaries from Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan were heard. Then, a presentation on the theme "Perspective directions of the development of the postal sphere in Azerbaijan" was made.
After that, the participants of the meeting were provided with information about the projects and reforms that had been implemented in the country in this area, in particular, about the "Development of financial services" project. Then, a discussion of general proposals prepared for the 26th UPU Congress was held. It should be noted that Azerbaijan presented more than 30 proposals aimed at the overall development of the global postal sector.
