This year the volume of stolen personal data has doubled worldwide, according to InfoWatch. More than one billion personal data records were compromised during the first 6 months of 2016, while the number of leaks was 840.
The US remains the leader in the number of leaks: 451 cases of personal data leak were registered there in January-June 2016, which makes 54% of the total volume of personal data thefts.
Russia took second place the number of confidential information leaks and it remains in this place for more than three years in a row. 110 leaks of confidential information were registered in Russia this year.
It is followed by the UK, where 39 leaks were registered.
InfoWatch study says that two-thirds of the leakage occurred through the fault of insiders and that external attacks are responsible for a third of all the leaks.
