Azerkosmos employee awarded prestigious SpaceMaster scholarship


The satellite operator of the Satellite and Terrestrial Systems Department of Azercosmos OJSC  Safura Mirzayeva has been awarded a scholarship to study for a master's degree in Space Science & Technology (SpaceMaster) within the Erasmus Mundus program (the European Union student exchange programme).  
 
She is one of the nine students in the world who have been awarded this scholarship in 2016.  Under the 2-year scholarship program, S. Mirzayeva will receive education in the mentioned field at University of Würzburg (Germany) and  Lulea University of Technology   (Sweden), starting from the 2016-2017 academic year.
 
S. Mirzayeva graduated from the Applied Mathematics Department of Baku State University.  She has worked at Azercosmos OJSC from the date of its establishment. S. Mirzayeva took part in satellite management trainings organized by Malaysian MEASAT and the US Orbital Sciences Corporation.

Its resources allow the company to be well-equipped and hence handle emerging technologies along with creating an added value for the population that is beyond the reach of the terrestrial networks in benefiting from the satellite-based services. Strategic development plans of the company include enhancing the coverage area and spectrum of services by launching the second telecommunications satellite Azerspace-2 at 45° East longitude in 2017 and a very high resolution optical Earth observation satellite in upcoming years.
