Internet browsers account for more than 40% of vulnerabilities in Windows

Internet browsers account for more than 40% of vulnerabilities in Windows, according to Eset antivirus company’s report.

In 2016, Microsoft fixed 518 vulnerabilities in its software products.  220 of these vulnerabilities related to the Web browser.

About a third of breaches could be used for the remote execution of malicious code on the affected system.

109 vulnerabilities were discovered in 2016, which is twice less than in the previous year.

111 vulnerabilities were discovered in the new Microsoft Edge (used by default in Windows 10).

However, as the researchers note, none of the vulnerabilities in the Edge was used in cyber attacks before the closing updates.

The report also states that in 2016 the number of vulnerabilities of different Windows user-mode components increased almost four times - up to 116 from 30 in 2015.

In early 2017, Microsoft released four security bulletins that fixed vulnerabilities in several products, according to DailyComm.
