YouTube to stop working on 2012 and older TVs

From June 30 this year, the owners of TVs of 2012 or the earlier production year will no longer be able to use the YouTube application.

"The fact is that YouTube flash-application is very outdated. In 2012, based on the HTML5 syntax, the modern version of YouTube with many new features was developed.  In addition, we are constantly adding new features, including thematic tabs, more convenient search options, simplified navigation and the improved recommendations system. We cannot integrate these functions into the flash-application,” a message posted on the video support service website says.

To view YouTube, users should purchase a modern media set-top box (like Chromecast and Android TV), which must be connected to an outdated TV panel, or they should buy the newer model of TV-set.

The working version of the YouTube app is available on smart TVs released in 2013 or later.

It can also be installed by the owners of PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Wii U game consoles, Mediasat reports.
