Huawei Launches Entry Level ‘Honor Play Tab 2’ Tablets
Huawei’s sub brand, Honor, held an event announcing several new gadgets and electronics including phones and tablets.
Revealed at today’s event, the Honor Play Tab 2 tablets offer an entry level tab experience with prices ranging from budget friendly to mid-range. Unfortunately the tablets will only be available in China, Huawei did not reveal a date for international release.
They will come in two different screen sizes with an 8″ version being portrait-oriented while the bigger 9.6″ is landscape oriented.
Internals, Storage and Connectivity Options
Both of the tablets come with a 1280 x 800 resolution IPS LCD display. Most of the specifications for the two tablets are similar. These are powered by a 1.4 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor with 2 or 3 GB RAM. There are three different variants for the two models, each featuring different RAM, storage or connectivity options.
Wi-Fi only, 2 GB RAM + 16 GB storage
LTE, 2 GB RAM+ 16 GB storage
LTE, 3 GB RAM + 16 GB storage
All of the variants come with a microSD card slot but only the LTE version(s) have a dual SIM card support.
Fortunately, Huawei opted for the newer version of Android, namely Nougat which comes with the company’s skin, EMUI 5.1 on top.
The two tablets have a 5 MP back camera as well as a 2 MP front camera. Tablets usually don’t emphasize photography or camera quality so this is understandable.
Price and Availability
Prices start from CNY 799 (~Rs. 12,000) for the Wi-Fi only version and go up to CNY 1,499 (~Rs. 23,000) for the 3 GB RAM variant. This seems a little odd as a low end Snapdragon 425 processor in a Rs. 20,000+ tablet is a rather underpowered. It will go on sale in China from June 1st this year.
