American engineers have created a new technology for unmanned vehicles

Researchers from the United States have created a unique system that allows for a safer movement of unmanned vehicles.

At present, the vehicles fitted with the innovative technology are going through preliminary testing.

The new system is based on analogue sonar, which emits sound pulses to determine the location of all obstacles on the road.

The computer draws a map in a few seconds covering a radius of several hundred meters to avoid collisions on the track.

Researchers note that during the tests, the vehicles of a new type showed excellent results.

The tests showed that the vehicle is able to bypass around 90 percent of obstacles on the track.

The new system “sees” even moving objects and is able to properly maneuver in 90% of cases.

In addition to the sonar, a motion sensor is installed in the vehicle, which detects obstacles located at a short distance of up to 10 meters.

The new vehicle is built on the basis of Waymo prototype.

Previously, it was used in the first prototypes of unmanned vehicles from Google.

According to the developers, unmanned vehicles equipped with the new system might go on sale in the coming years, RSUTE reports.
