Samsung to unveil Galaxy Note 8 on Aug. 26
Samsung Electronics is expected to unveil the bigger-screen Galaxy Note 8 at a separate unpack event in New York on Aug. 26, according to news reports on June 20.
The Korean tech giant is reportedly finalizing the venue currently. Depending on the venue schedule, the phone’s launch can be adjusted but for now it seems unlikely.
Speculation was growing that the Note 8 could make its debut during the IFA trade show in September in Berlin. But sources say Samsung has decided to advance the launch before the release of Apple’s iPhone 8.
Its ill-fated predecessor, Note 7, was launched on Aug. 2 last year, about a month earlier than usual. Following the phone’s unprecedented recall, Samsung has strengthened quality control process overall for smartphones, adding more steps for safety checkup.
The latest flagship Galaxy S8 debuted in April, about a month’s delay compared to the previous year possibly due to Samsung’s probe into the fire-prone Note 7 and the tightened quality control.
Rumors are piling up about the upcoming Note 8. Some confirmed features by sources include artificial intelligence assistant Bixby, an upgraded stylus S-Pen, a 6.3-inch display screen that is slightly larger than the 6.2-inch Galaxy S8+.
Samsung seems to have failed again in featuring on-screen fingerprint scanning for the new phone that is likely to come with a fingerprint sensor on the back of the device. The sensor is expected to be located at the center, not next to the camera lens, considering complaints among S8 users about lens smudges.
