Thousands of Windows users have lost access to Skype
At the beginning of June, Microsoft announced that Skype had received a major update, thanks to which it could compete with iMessage, WhatsApp, Messenger, Snapchat and other messengers. The company rethought the design, adding a few new practical features. Meanwhile, along with the announcement of a major update, developers also recalled the termination of support for some older platforms from July 1 of this year.
Starting July 1, 2017, access to Skype will be lost to owners of devices running Windows RT, Windows Phone 8 and 8.
The messenger will stop working on TVs with Smart TV function and in the Messaging application for Windows 10 Mobile. Recall that the decision to stop support for Skype on these OS is caused by the transition of the service to the cloud infrastructure. Those who plan to continue to use Skype, developers are strongly advised to update the operating system.
It is expected that the developers will not stop updating the mobile versions of the messenger: soon the significant changes in the work of Skype will be noticed by users of macOS and Windows.
