A new "invisible" virus infects smartphones via MMS-messages
Experts warn of the emergence of a new malicious program that infects phones using MMS-messages.
The virus takes information from the user's phone book, selecting one of the contacts and substituting its name with the name of the sender of MMS message. Thus, the victim sees that he has received a photograph allegedly from a friend. After clicking on the file, an infected application with an apk. extension is installed on the smartphone.
After the virus penetrates the smartphone, the malicious program spreads itself further through the victim's contacts. It also finds out the balance of the account and transfers the money to the attackers. In addition, the application shows the user fake pages of banking applications, forcing him to enter data on his card, after which the money is written off.
"This threat is directed at users of the Android OS - customers of banks using SMS-banking and users of mobile banking applications. It is characteristic that the antivirus programs installed on the victims' phones don’t not detect any malware at any stage of the virus’ activity. Antiviruses in this situation simply do not help, "said Rustam Mirkasimov, head of Department of Dynamic Analysis of Malicious Code of Group-IB.
