WhatsApp reportedly testing YouTube integration on iOS
WhatsApp will soon let you view YouTube videos without leaving the app. As of now if you tap on a YouTube video link, it forces you to open the YouTube app separately. As spotted by the WABetaInfo website, the Facebook-owned instant messaging app is testing this new feature in its iOS app's beta version.
This feature is said to be hidden in the WhatsApp for iOS version 2.17.40. The app will let users playback YouTube video links in a picture-in-picture mode. The floating window can be resized using pinch to zoom gesture. There will also be an option to open the video in fullscreen mode and hide the chat window by docking the video on the size of the chat.
The report, however, states that users won't be able to continue watching the video once they leave the app, or the particular chat for that matter. The feature is supported on iPhone 6 and above models. There is no word as to when this feature will hit Android or Windows Phone versions of WhatsApp.
WhatsApp often chooses iOS platform to test new features. The company recently launched a new Night Mode camera feature for iOS users . The feature lets users click brighter images at night using the in-camera app.
It recently also allowed millions of users to share any kind of files using the app. Users can now share files up to 100MB size. However, it is being said that the iPhone users can share files that are larger than 100MB.
WhatsApp is also working on bringing the unified payment interface (UPI) in its app . The company is reportedly in the discussion phase. However, UPI's integration inside the app will boost its adoption by many folds. Some of the other tech giants working on integrating UPI are Google, Uber and Amazon.
