BlackBerry service experiences problems in UK again
Research In Motion Ltd.'s BlackBerry service is experiencing problems in the U.K. for a second consecutive day, the U.K.'s biggest mobile operator by revenue, Everything Everywhere, said Tuesday.
"We are aware of the ongoing service interruption to Blackberry users. The issue is being investigated by RIM, and they are working to resolve the problem as soon as possible," an Everything Everywhere spokesperson said in an email. Everything Everywhere was created last year from the merger of France Telecom's Orange and Deutsche Telekom AG's T-Mobile U.K. businesses.
A server that handles traffic from consumers rather than business channels in Slough, southern England is "understood to have gone down," according to a mobile industry executive who didn't want to be identified.
BlackBerry's mobile service on all networks in the U.K. has been affected Tuesday, a person at another U.K. mobile operator said Tuesday on the condition of anonymity.
BlackBerry's service also suffered problems on Monday, but these were resolved, the person added. RIM in the U.K. wasn't immediately available to comment on Tuesday's service disruption.
On Monday, customer-services representatives for RIM said in a Twitter note that the company was investigating problems with some customer accounts in Europe and the Middle East and apologized for the interruptions.
BlackBerry subscribers with Vodafone Group PLC were among those experiencing trouble on Monday, but some of them said the service was operating normally as of late afternoon European time.
Vodafone, the world's biggest mobile operator by revenue, wasn't immediately available to comment Tuesday.
