First unmanned bus appeared In Stockholm

The first bus without a driver appeared this week among in Sista district of Stockholm, reports Swedish Radio SR.

“It is sliding slowly and almost without sound, as on electricity,” reports radio.

Plans for such testing became known in the end of 2017 after the Transport Administration of Sweden issued a permit. Two buses will be tested for six months. They are equipped with engines that run on electricity. The buses will go on a pre-programmed route with a length of 1.5 kilometers at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour. The weight of each bus is 3.3 tons. Each bus has six seats for 12 passengers.

Each bus is equipped with special sensors that detect any obstacle on the way. As noted by the radio, sometimes these sensors respond not only to actual obstacles on the path of the car, but the deceptive obstacles as steam cloud, which is characteristic for the winter period. If it was in the path of movement of the bus, then he may slow down.

The buses were manufactured by a French company Easymile.
