Today is World Radio Day
On February 13, the specialized agency of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization - UNESCO celebrates World Radio Day.
The initiative to establish World Radio Day was put forward by the President of the Spanish Radio Academy, Jorge Álvarez.
In January 2008, he enlisted the support of UNESCO.
World Radio Day was approved in 2011 on the official proposal of the Ambassador of Spain, Ion de la Riva.
By the decision of the United Nations dated January 14, 2013, February 13 is annually celebrated as World Radio Day.
The date coincides with the first broadcast of UN Radio which took place on February 13, 1946.
Radio Day is celebrated every year on November 6 in Azerbaijan.
On this day, public radio broadcasts began for the first time.
At first, the radio program was broadcast only with the use of one transmitter and covered only the territory of the center of Baku.
Over the past period, Radio-TV Broadcasting and Satellite Communications Production Association installed new radio transmitters in all residential areas.
As a result, Azerbaijan's radio program currently covers 99.9 percent of the country's population via the "105 FM" radio transmitter.
