LG V30 Receives AI-Focused ThinQ Android Update On Verizon

Verizon started distributing a new software update to all variants of the LG V30 on its network, the wireless carrier disclosed earlier this week, with the firmware package in question being largely focused on artificial intelligence features which already launched with the V30S ThinQ. The South Korean original equipment manufacturer is now also referring to its 2017 Android flagship as the V30 ThinQ, with the name being meant to be indicative of the fact that the updated device now boasts a wide variety of new AI functionalities, including automated camera improvements.

The new software package is close to 850MB in size and ships with the March security patch, whereas Verizon’s rollout is gradual in nature and is hence expected to take several weeks until it’s completed, i.e. have the update become available on a national level. The main new addition to the device comes in the form of an enhanced camera which is now capable of recognizing the subjects of your shots and adjusting its shooting settings accordingly so as to maximize the potential of every image. Besides scene recommendations, the revamped software offers new camera filters and should perform in an even more consistent manner than before, as suggested by the official changelog of the update shared by Verizon.

LG is expected to announce its next high-end Android offering early next month, with the company also already working on a “true” successor to the V30. According to recent reports, the LG V40 is code-named “Storm” and will be released by early fall, i.e. around the same time its predecessor launched. On the other hand, the G7 is only set to be announced on May 2, more than fourteen months after LG unveiled the G6. The company has been rethinking its mobile strategy this year in an effort to revive its struggling smartphone business which lost over half a billion dollars in the second half of 2017 alone.
