The share of Android OS in the global smartphone market has slightly decreased

Gartner analysts registered a decrease in the share of Android OS in the global smartphone market in the first quarter of 2018, although sales of devices based on the Google operating system slightly increased.

According to experts, in January-March 2018, the world sold 329.3 million Android-smartphones against 325.9 million in the same period of 2017.

Given that the global sales volume for the communicator market in the past quarter was  384 million devices, Android's market share was 85.9%.  A year earlier this indicator was 86.1%.

As for Apple iOS, its positions have become stronger both in units and percentage. Quarterly iPhone sales of 54.06 million units provided iOS market share of 14.1%.

Also, Gartner statistics indicates the almost complete disappearance from the market of smartphones running other operating systems. If in January-March 2017 sales of such devices measured 607.3 thousand units, which corresponded to a share of 0.2%, after a year the sales of devices on alternative platforms fell to just over 130 thousand pieces,” DailyComm reports.
