Asus Unveils Project Precog, a Dual-Screen Laptop with Built-in A.I.
Asus has been leaning towards laptops with touchscreen surfaces on the keyboard panel with the ZenBook Pro at the ongoing Computex expo this year. However, it is now going one step further by announcing Project Precog, a futuristic laptop with dual-display surfaces.
The Asus Project Precog is basically a convertible device that bears noticeable similarities to the Lenovo Yoga Book from 2016. However, this upcoming machine is apparently smarter and is powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. Using the Intel Movidius Vision Processing Unit (VPU), it can smartly optimize battery usage and user tasks.
The device can be used in four form factors, namely Stand, Book, Tent, and Flat, owing largely to its 360-degree hinge that connects the two displays. Asus says that: “Project Precog is designed to provide a smooth and intuitive experience for industry-leading AI technologies. Intelligent Touch automatically recognizes the active input device and changes the virtual interface accordingly. It can automatically adjust the keyboard location depending on where the user places their fingertips, or automatically switch to stylus mode when a stylus touches the lower screen.”
Project Precog utilizes both Cortana and Amazon Alexa, by allowing users to "keep their main tasks in full view while virtual assistants process other tasks on the second screen". Project Precog is slated for a release some time next year, and Asus hopes that it will allow developers to build immersive experiences powered by AI.
