WhatsApp now lets users hide received media files from device gallery
WhatsApp is adding a lot of features lately, both big and small. The messaging app recently added group calling feature and sticker support in the Android beta version. Now another small feature called “Media Visibility” is being added, which will allow users to hide all the media files received on WhatsApp in their smartphone’s gallery.
WABetainfo was the first to spot the feature, which comes in the new beta update dubbed as v2.18.195. According to the website, it allows users to hide images, videos and even audio files received on WhatsApp in the device’s default gallery. While the option to hide media from WhatsApp was already included, the new feature allows you to do so for individual chats and group chats.
The feature can be accessed by going into a contact’s info page and then clicking on “Media Visibility” option. Here you’ll get the option to choose between No, Yes and Default, to show the media from the chat in your gallery. You can choose one basis your preference. The Default option is a preset to show media files in the gallery.
You can do the same for groups chats as well. While it’s not a big feature it will still help reduce the clutter caused by the huge barrage of unwanted images shared on a WhatsApp group or by an individual friend.
It should be noted that the feature will only work for media files that you receive after updating the WhatsApp version. Images received prior to the update, will continue to show in the gallery. It’s also only available for Android beta users running the 2.18.194 version of the application. However, we’re positive the feature will be made available to everybody soon.
