Fake Viber steals files from WhatsApp

ESET has discovered a new spyware that operates under the guise of the popular Viber messenger.
 
The spyware looks like the real Viber and has the “Editor's Choice” icon indicating more than 500 million downloads, as well as an average user rating (4.3 points).
 
After installation, the fake Viber requests advanced file access rights for accessing the files stored in the device memory and on the SD card.
 
During its operation, the application steals media files and documents from WhatsApp and WeChat, photos and other downloaded files from the device's memory, and it can also record calls, Ria.ru reports.
