LG Elec to debut upgraded exoskeleton suit at CES
At CES 2019, LG Electronics will debut an updated version of its wearable CLOi SuitBot that supports the lower body to reduce stress when lifting and bending, the company said on Thursday.
Originally unveiled last fall in Berlin, the wearable exoskeleton supports the user`s waist and augments their own muscle power to reduce the risk of injury and fatigue when performing physically demanding and repeated tasks such as lifting and lowering heavy loads.
Upon detecting movement when the wearer bends at a 65-degree angle, the robotic suit provides mechanical power when the user stretches back. It is disengaged when standing in an upright position. The upgraded wearable robot also features quick and convenient fitting, the company said.
LG Electronics is speeding up its robotics business by unveiling commercially viable robot concepts that can be deployed in a wide range of fields from consumer to industrial and medical applications.
The company has so far released a total of nine service and wearable robots designed for environments such as airports, hotels, supermarkets and malls to assist customers, transport luggage, deliver meals and carry groceries.
