Baku hosts meeting of High Level Working Group on Information Society Development


The 6th meeting of the High Level Working Group on Information Society Development was held today in Baku. The event was co-organized by the Regional Commonwealth in the field of Communications (RCC) and the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
 
The High Level Working Group on Development of Information Society is a collegial working body of the Heads of RCC Communications Administration Council. It serves the objectives of the development of the information society in the RCC member states. Members of the Working Group may be persons who are not lower than the deputies of relevant ministers of these countries.
 
Speakers at the meeting, chaired by Deputy Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan Elmir Velizade, were Chairman of ITU Council Working Group on the High Level World Summit on Information Society Vladimir Minkin, Chairman of the RCC Commission on Information Technologies Rustam Dadamahammadov, as well as representatives of RCC Executive Committee, CIS Executive Committee and communications administrations of the Russian Federation.
 
The meeting discussed the areas of activity and priorities of the Working Group for 2019-2025, issues of cooperation with the RCC member countries for digital development and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. There was also an exchange of views on the role and tasks of telecom operators in the implementation of digital economy programs.
 
Issues of drafting economic development strategy for CIS 2030, implementing a draft concept and plan of priority measures for cooperation of CIS member states in digital development, expanding cooperation of the RCC member countries in the field of internet governance, improving the work of the RCC working bodies were also discussed at the meeting.
