14 billion cyber threats were neutralized in the first quarter
The manufacturer of information security solutions Trend Micro published a cyber threat report for the first quarter of 2019.
At the end of this period, the company handled about 619 billion requests and neutralized almost 14 billion threats, 90.5% of which are threats related to e-mail. Among the latter, there was a rather sharp increase in the number of malicious attachments with the .XLS extension.
In January-March 2019, BEC attacks also remained popular. First of all, the attackers, using the methods of social engineering, tried to impersonate managers (45.3%). The most popular "targets" for this type of attack were financial managers (32%) and financial directors (9%).
The number of zero-day vulnerabilities was steadily growing in the first quarter, while the number of vulnerabilities in SCADA-systems was smaller, but they accounted for almost a third of the total number of detected vulnerabilities. Microsoft, Foxit, Apple and Adobe were among the most popular vendors with the most vulnerabilities.
As to the banking malware, Emotet, Ramnit and Trickbot were most often detected and blocked in the first quarter of 2019, DailyComm reports.
