Dark Mode, swipe keyboard: Apple unveils iOS 13 for iPhone at WWDC 2019
In a bid to make its devices more personalised and secure, Apple on Monday unveiled the next-generation and much faster iOS 13 with features like Dark Mode and Apple sign-in, along with new Mac Pro and a brand new iPadOS.
The highly-agile iOS 13 would make unlocking the Apple device with Face ID 30 per cent faster, downloads 50 per cent smaller and updates 60 per cent smaller.
"The popularity of iOS 12 can be measured by the fact that it has seen 85 per cent adoption rate while Android 9 saw only 10 per cent. iOS 13 is going to redefine our customers' experiences like never before," Apple CEO Tim Cook told the packed house at the San Jose convention centre here during the company's annual flagship WWDC 2019 here.
The event was attended by more than 5,000 people from 86 countries.
"iOS 13 is twice as faster than iOS 12. The idea is to give Apple users a more agile and secure experience," Cook added. Apple is also adding swipe typing to its iOS keyboard.
The company announced several key features with iOS 13, like Sign in with Apple where the user won't need to sign into Apple devices with third party players like Facebook or Google, thus compromising security.
Apple also announced exciting features in Apple Watch, Apple Maps, Apple TV , Mac iCloud storage and more.
"iOS has the customer satisfaction rate of 97 per cent globally, much more than any other player out there. iOS 13 would be a game changer," said Cook.
Apple Inc. announced a slew of new privacy features on Monday, including a new "Sign in With Apple" capability.
The tool rivals similar sign-in buttons from Facebook Inc. and Google that are found on many websites or on apps. The Apple feature lets users provide select information, like name and email address, that is guarded by the company’s Face ID 3-D login system on iPhones and iPads, Bloomberg reported.
Users will be able to choose which apps get what information. If users don’t want to provide their email address to an app or website, Apple now offers "relay" addresses instead. These are randomized addresses that forward information from sites and apps to people’s real email accounts.
Apple Inc. showed off a big upgrade to the software that powers its Watch, adding an App Store, new health-tracking features, and a series of new watch faces.
The company previewed the new operating system, watchOS 6, at its annual developer conference in San Jose, California, on Monday. For the first time, the App Store will be usable from the Watch itself, a change from needing to download apps to the device via a connected iPhone. It also added new Watch apps like a calculator, Apple Books for listening to audio books and a voice recorder.
Apple also unveiled new faces for the clock feature of the Watch, including a new dial that merges Roman and Arabic numerals, a face that looks like a sundial, and a new Infograph face that shows more information.
It also upped the health-tracking capabilities of the smartwatch, bundling in a Cycle Tracking program for menstrual cycle tracking and Activity Trends to analyze your workout activity over time.
