AZ-CERT computer emergency response team can be improved
The effectiveness of the Computer Emergency Response AZ-CERT team can be enhanced by working in close cooperation with Internet service providers in Azerbaijan, Chief Engineer at the Information Technology Institute of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) Rashid Alakbarov told .
He said such interaction is practiced today throughout the world. Internet service providers regularly report to CERT, on information about the appearance of new network attacks, vulnerabilities, ports, etc. The information is publicly available through Internet resources CERT, whose administrators also provide advisory services to users.
"Today, virtually none of the Azerbaijani Internet service providers provide such information to the AZ-CERT. This is not a mandatory procedure, although such cooperation could serve only to intensify the fight against unwanted incidents on the Internet and prevent them by pre-notification of Internet users," he said.
The AZ-CERT is accredited at the Trans-European Association of Research and Educational Institutions (TERENA), allowing it access to the restricted database of the organisation.
One important aspect is the mutual support between the AZ-CERT and TERENA by a rapid elimination of emergency situations and incidents in the computer field.
The AZ-CERT functions scientific cover for the network AzScienceNet. Today, AZ-CERT is a group of experts ready to respond quickly to emergencies in the computer field and is integrated with another monitoring system of the ANAS, which allows the team to receive information about incidents. To monitor computer systems and networks, the team use a number of software solutions and tools with an open code which allows them to monitor these sites and services and alert the administrator about failures or other threats.
It has its own website, a separate network and server that captures, maintains records and processes requests from an incident.
