Top-5 notebook brands see shipments rise on year in July, says Digitimes Research
Worldwide top-5 notebook brands saw combined shipments shrink 20% on month and rise 7% on year in July as Intel's CPU shortages started improving and vendors continued preparing extra inventory as a precaution against US tariffs, according to Digitimes Research's latest monthly notebook update.
Hewlett-Packard (HP), the largest notebook brand in the US, made the biggest early inventory preparations of all vendors, significantly propping up its shipments in July compared to those of the same month in the previous years, Digitimes Research's numbers show.
Lenovo's shipments to the US were fewer than those of the US-based vendors, but the company managed to achieve a small on-year growth in July along with increases in its overall shipments.
Dell's Chromebook shipments continued to see momentum, allowing the vendor to achieve the lowest on-month shipment drop among the top-4 vendors in July.
The top-3 ODMs' combined shipments plunged 25% on month in July. Compal Electronics had a smaller shipment drop than those of Quanta and Wistron, thanks to Dell's mild cuts in orders for Compal.
