“BakuTel–2011” international telecommunication and information technologies exhibition and conference started


“BakuTel–2011” international telecommunication and information technologies exhibition and conference has started.

At the opening ceremony of the exhibition the president of Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev’s letter was read, in which he expressed his greetings to participants of “BakuTel–2011” international telecommunication and information technologies exhibition and conference.

Then, the head of UN’s Baku office Fikret Akchura conveyed greetings from UN Secretary General Pan Gi Moon to the participants of this invent.

Speaking at the opening ceremony the minister of Communications and IT Ali Abbasov greeted the guests and participants of the exhibition and gave high assessment to this important invent, which has been held successfully for the past 17 years.

The minister said that by giving the IC sector the second highest priority after the oil industry and by attaching importance to development of information technologies and building of information society the president simulates the activities conducted in this sphere.

The minister stressed that the process of integration of the natural recourses-based economy with high-tech-based economy serves as an engine for continuous development of the national economy.

While speaking about regional and international projects implemented in this sector Mr. Abbasov underlined that BakuTel exhibition may serve as an efficient platform for demonstration of large-scale projects.

At the end of his speech, the minister expressed his gratitude to the head of the state and the Secretary General of UN Pan Gi Moon for their support.

The chairman of the EU committee of ministers Jan Kubish, secretary-general of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Hamadun Toure, deputy secretary-general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Abdul Miz Bukhari, chief coordinator of Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) Atta-ur-Rahman and other high-ranking persons took part at the exhibition.

By tradition the chief participants of the world IT market, who always participate at “BakuTel” exhibitions, took part at this opening ceremony.

Around 250 companies from 29 countries of the world have come to the “Bakutel 2011” exhibition. More that 40% of the exhibition’s space is occupied by local IT companies, mobile operators, distributors, communication operators and service firms.

18 national expositions from Austria, Belorussia, Hungary, France, Iran, Israel, Spain, Canada, Latvia, Lithuania, United Arab Emirates, Rumania, USA, Turkey, Croatia and Estonia will be demonstrated at the exhibition for the first time.
