Xiaomi unveils world’s fastest wireless charging technology for smartphones

The Chinese company Xiaomi, one of the world’s largest suppliers of smartphones, today announced the world’s fastest wireless battery charging technology.

Xiaomi has been introducing wireless charging for more than two and a half years. So, in March 2018, the Xiaomi Mix 2S device with 7.5-watt wireless charging was presented, and in October of the same year, the Xiaomi Mix 3 device with a 10-watt system.

In September 2019, the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro smartphone was released with a 30-watt wireless charging, and in March of this year, Xiaomi talked about a 40-watt charging. In August 2020, the company showed off the Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition, which supports 50W wireless charging.

New wireless technology delivers up to 80 watts of power – the highest available today. The operation of the system is shown on the example of a modified Mi 10 Pro smartphone.

The 4000 mAh battery can be half charged wirelessly in just 8 minutes. It will take 19 minutes to fully replenish the energy reserve of such a battery – from 0% to 100%.

Xiaomi does not go into technical details regarding the 80-watt system. The timing of the commercial availability of the technology is also not reported.
