Cybercriminals continue to abuse coronavirus theme

The number of phishing attacks related to the coronavirus continues to increase. Thus, in another phishing campaign, fake live broadcasts are conducted on behalf of celebrities using fragments of their real videos. Users are encouraged to join these broadcasts by making a donation of over € 10,000. In the next steps, the user who joins the broadcast and answers a simple question is required to register by indicating his personal information and bank card details. When a user provides this information, funds disappear from his bank account, and his personal information is used in other types of cybercrime.

It should be noted that it is possible that in the future cyber fraudsters will continue to try to lure people into a trap by abusing their fears, anxieties and curiosity about the coronavirus.

That is why the Electronic Security Service under the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies urges citizens to be extremely careful in cyberspace, not to succumb to deception by notifications promising any gifts, donations or free products, not to provide personal information, especially banking details, and to complain about such messages as spam.

Citizens who have believed these notifications and have already provided their banking details must immediately notify the bank of which they are clients. They should restrict withdrawals from their accounts.

Also, when you faced such a situation, please contact the Electronic Security Service under the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies via the website www.cert.az  or e-mail reports@cert.az.
