UK blames Apple for large amounts of e-waste.
This year, Apple decided not to include the charger and headphones in the boxes with the company’s phones with the new iPhone smartphones. Apple attributes this to concern for the environment, but not everyone is inclined to believe in this.
The British Parliamentary Environmental Audit Committee released a study that said technology companies such as Apple and Amazon had made new products more cost-effective by increasing product maintenance complexity and charging high service fees. At the same time, it increases the generation of e-waste. In other words: the UK is confident that Apple, having taken such a step, did not care about protecting the environment in any way.
In response to this statement, Apple said it was surprised and disappointed by the UK regulator’s report. Apple believes the study does not reflect its efforts to conserve resources and protect our planet at all.
Apple said consumers today have more options to trade, recycle, and make safe, quality repairs, and that recyclable materials are used in critical components in Apple’s latest product line.
Amazon said the company is committed to minimizing waste and helping customers reuse, repair, and return products. Over the past 10 years, Amazon has supported recycling over 10,000 tons of e-waste in the UK.
