Gedabey communication unit connected to TAE highway
The Azebaijani segment of TAE fiber-optic cable highway continues expanding. According to information provided by technical director of “Aztelekom” PA, Gedabey communication unit has been connected to TAE line in Shamkir direction.
Realization of this project provided the remote region with information and communication technologies, and favorable conditions were created for introducing financial services in this region. All problems in connecting the district center and villages to the internet have been eliminated.
Apart from that, all the villages in Shamkir-Gedabey direction will be directly connected to this line in order to improve quality of their communication. After the association connects Dashkesan communication unit to TAE line, Azerbaijan will become the first republic among the CIS states to have all district centers connected to TAE line.
Let’s note that on October 21, 1999 Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey signed a trilateral protocol to execute TAE project, which comprises a vast territory from Europe to Far East.
On December 1 of the same year construction of Azerbaijani segment of TAE fiber-optic cable started. In 2001 construction of the overland part of the Azerbaijani segment of TAE was completed, and in the same year the communication channels between Baku and Tbilisi were switched to TAE fiber-optic cable highway.
