EU Kroes says e-books, books should have same tax rate
E-books sold over platforms such as Amazon Inc.'s Kindle and for tablet computers should have the same tax rate as traditional paper books, European Union digital agenda commissioner Neelie Kroes said Monday.
"I think books and e-books should be taxed the same," Kroes said in a 'Tweetchat' on the instant messaging website."Lower rates can help grow nascent markets."
She added that all companies, including internet search giant Google Inc. must comply with the bloc's rules on privacy. The EU commission set out proposals for new privacy rules last week which will now be debated by the EU parliament and member states.
