MCIT will strengthen the security of postal service
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies will strengthen the security of mail, head of department of postal services of MCIT, chairman of the committee on postal services of the Regional Commonwealth of Communications (RCC), Novruz Mammadov told.
Mr Mammadov said Azerbaijan is one of the CIS countries paying special attention to the safety of posting. The multilevel control system, up to delivery of mail to the end destination point is used in the postal service network.
"Until now, no serious incidents were recorded in the postal network. Mail, coming by aircraft to the country is thoroughly examined at the airport and then at the sorting office. Due to the issue of security in the postal network, the Azerbaijani postal service will consider the possibility of using more effective measures to strengthen control. First of all, we are talking about buying new equipment," Mr Mammadov said.
He said mail security issues were the main topic of discussion during a joint international seminar of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), the RCC and La Poste (France) held in Uzbekistan recently.
"Unfortunately, in some countries the postal service is used to carry out terrorist acts by sending certain substances. To prevent this various measures have been taken, but we must not forget that criminals are always searching to find more sophisticated methods.
"Therefore, precautions must be taken continuously. On the basis of information voiced at the seminar, a report which will be submitted to the leadership of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, will be prepared," Mr Mammadov said.
