Application of information technologies expands in regions


A new project on expanding the application of information technologies in regional telecommunication hubs’ servicing areas has been developed by Aztelekom Production Unit.   Under the project, all connecting lines at EATSs of Aztelekom’s telephone network will be provided with fiber-optic cables in order to modernize and widen the telephone network covering regional centers, cities, settlements and villages in the regions. Within the project, joint cooperation agreements were signed with 7 internet-providers, and the execution of the agreements began.

Under the signed agreements, the internet-providers provided 570 km optic cable to 17 telecommunication hubs during the past year.  514 km of this cable has already been laid. Besides, connecting lines of EATSs’ of 12 of the mentioned 17 telecommunication hubs have been replaced with fiber-optic cables.

A total of more than 1,700 km fiber-cable has been laid, and installation works have began. At the same time, in villages connecting lines of EATSs of 23 telecommunication hubs have been replaced with fiber-optic cables.  In addition to the first project, “Development of broadband services in the servicing areas of regional telecommunication hubs of Aztelekom Production Unit in 2013-2015” project was developed and presented for various programs.  As part of the activities implemented towards expanding the telecommunication network in Absheron region, fiber-optic cables were laid at 12-storey building in the newly built residential area “Gurtulush-93”. 

 Since the beginning of 2012, the number of users of the broadband internet in the servicing area of Azertelekom has increased by 51,000 people (100 percent) to make up 102,000 people.  The monthly volume of broadband internet services grew 75 percent in September. At present, broadband services account for 18.5 percent of the total revenue.   As a comparison, this figure was 8.7 percent in the same period of last year.
