Work is underway to provide subscribers of ‘AzScienceNet’ network with new services


The Institute of Information Technologies of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences held discussions of activities to be carried out by its departments in 2013. According to information provided by the institute, during the Scientific Council’s meeting held on February 18-22, 2013 18 departments of the institute and the Training and Innovation Centre presented their action plans for the current year.

Each department head provided the meeting with broad information about activities to be carried out by their departments in 2013, which include scientific research activities, educational research activities, publication of articles in popular scientific journals, preparation of various scientific books and electronic publications, propagation of the results of scientific and research activities in mass media, etc.

The meeting highlighted the measures to be implemented in 2013 to eliminate problems existing in such spheres as the building information society, expanding electronic library networks, applying analytic information, web-technologies and socio-information technologies, forming the knowledge economy and etc.

The meeting underlined the importance of conducting an e-science policy, which is one of main requirements of the information society, in the country. It also stressed the importance of raising the efficiency of scientific and research activists being carried out by scientific institutions. Participants of the meeting spoke about the development of “AzScienseNet” science computer network infrastructure, which serves as a platform of e-science, and creation of ANAS’s Data-Processing Centre.

Also, the meeting underlined the importance of insuring information security of e-Government , expanding application of cloud technologies and insuring information security of cloud calculations. Speakers at the meeting provided information on large-scale activities implemented towards providing subscribers of “AzScienceNet” network with new services such as cloud computing, virtual calculating, using memory recourses, etc.

They also spoke about the importance of publishing scientific articles in famous scientific journals, noting the advantages of using “Tomson Reuter” journal to this end. The meeting highlighted wide opportunities being offered by the information market for propagating innovative ideas and trends as well as the results of various scientific activities.

At the end of the meeting recommendations were given and relevant decisions were made regarding projects, conferences, seminars and other activities to be implemented in 2013.
