Young people become more interested in ICT specialities

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan is now implementing measures towards enlightening school pupils and university students about ICT specialities. These measures include organization of tours to ICT facilities, providing young people with detailed information on communication and information technologies and informing pupils and students about the future prospects for the ICT field.

This information was revealed to “ICTnews.az” online news service by the head of the Postal Sector of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies (MCIT) Novruz Mammadov. According to him, MCIT together with some non-governmental organizations organized tours to ICT facilities for pupils from schools located in various regions of the republic.

In the course of these tours the school pupils visited Azerpost, Aztelecom and other ICT-related facilities. These enlightenment activities were envisaged in MCIT’s action plan which had been prepared in connection with the declaration of 2013 the Year of Information and Communication Technologies in Azerbaijan. During these visits young people were able to familiarize themselves with modern information and communication technologies, and their interest in this sphere has definitely increased.

I think that such visits must be organized on a regular basis in order to raise young people’s awareness of modern information and communication technologies. Because in Azerbaijan, like in all developed countries of the world, information and communication technologies are being widely used by the majority of the population. In this context, every young person in Azerbaijan takes a great interest in any novelty that has been introduced in the ICT sphere.

In spite of the fact that the Internet is being actively used by most of young people in Azerbaijan, there exist still some places in the country where there is no access to the Internet. But works is now underway by MCIT to provide these areas with internet access. Yet, people living in these areas can access the Internet through their mobile phones.
