Azerbaijan, European Union discuss cooperation in ICT


Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ali Abbasov has met with head of European Union (EU) Delegation to Azerbaijan Ms. Malena Mard.

 

Noting the successful cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union in various areas, Minister Ali Abbasov spoke about the role of high technologies sector in ensuring sustainable economic development in the country, and increasing share of this sector in the dynamic development of the country year after year, purposeful measures taken, national and regional projects, including TASIM, the Development of National Broadband Internet. Noting free Internet environment in the country, the activities of the Internet users, the minister spoke about the relations established with the European Union in the development of the ICT sector, and mentioned the visit of the EU Commissioner for the Digital Agenda Neelie Kroes to Azerbaijan as part of this cooperation.

 

Saying that she has always followed the reforms aimed at development of ICT sector in Azerbaijan, Malena Mard stressed the large-scale measures taken and expressed satisfaction with the ICT sector in our country.

 

Saying the partnership between Azerbaijan and the European Union is strengthening in various areas as well as in ICT sector, the diplomat said that the EU intends to involve the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies (MCHT) in its projects to be implemented. In particular, touching upon the increasing activity in the Twinning Programme, which is the initiative of the European Commission, the diplomat noted the importance of involving employees of MCHT in various training programs and expressed willingness in implementing mutual exchange of experiences in cybersecurity and other areas.

 

The minister, in turn, expressed confidence that studying the EU experience will serve to strengthen mutual cooperation and the relations will also be continued in the future.
