Turkmenistan displays interest in participating in Azerbaijani East-West superhighway project

Turkmenistan displays an interest in participating in the project of building the East-West information superhighway, said the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan.

According to the Ministry, this became one of the main topics discussed yesterday by the Minister of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan Ali Abbasov and Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan Toila Komekov.

The sides also discussed the installation of the Caspian segment of Trans-Asia-Europe (TAE) international fiber-optic cable line. The ambassador expressed his confidence in even more efforts of both sides in its joint implementation.

Also the sides discussed the participation of telecommunication administrations and companies of both countries in exhibitions Turkmentel to be held in Ashgabat and Bakutel-2011 in Baku.

At present, on the backdrop of growing cooperation between the two ministries, work is underway to sign an intergovernmental agreement.

The East-West project is intended to connect a total of 20 countries. Its implementation will enable to eliminate the "information gap" between Western Europe and the Pacific Basin.
