1505 cases of leakage of confidential information were registered in 2015


According to InfoWatch Analytical Centre, 1505 cases of leakage of confidential information were registered in 2015, which is 7.8% more than in the previous year. The Center cites staff negligence and external cyber-attacks as the most common causes of leaks in 2015.  Analysts noted that the share of the leaks that happened due to external attacks increased by 7.2% compared to the same period of 2014 and made 32.2%. Data leaks caused by external attacks are characterized by a large volume of compromised data. In 51.2% of the cases, the leaks (both accidental and malicious) were caused by current or former employees of the organizations. More often (in 90.8% of cases) personal data and payment information was leaked. A total of more than 965,900,000 records were compromised during the stated period.
