Investments rise in broadband Internet

The Aztelecom production association has invested over AZN 3m ($3.8m) in developing the broadband Internet network since the start of the year.

Aztelecom, which is part of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, is in the process of procuring equipment worth over AZN 1m ($1.27m).

"The equipment is expected to be delivered at the end of the month. It will be installed by the end of the year," the ministry said in a statement.

Aztelecom has around 50,000 subscribers to its broadband Internet network (including broadband connections by private internet providers).

The additional equipment will enable Aztelecom to raise the number of broadband ports to 30,000 at a regional level which, in turn, will expand opportunities to provide broadband Internet services in 20 district centres and 143 villages across the country. Some 3.5% of Aztelecom broadband Internet users live in rural areas.
