The number of viruses for mobile devices has tripled

According to data released by Kaspersky Lab for 2016, the number of viruses for mobile devices has tripled.

There was approximately 8.5-fold increase in the number of extortionist trojans that block devices’ work and demand a ransom. There was 1.5 fold increase in the number of mobile banking trojans, which attack mostly Russian users.

According to Kaspersky Lab study, advertising trojans for mobile devices were strongly widespread in 2016. These malicious programs aggressively show ads on the infected gadget. Some of these trojans can install viruses, as well as their modules in system folders. So it is not easy to remove them.

Attackers use the fact that the majority of mobile devices still regularly receive updates to the operating system. This leads to the fact that smartphones and tablets are vulnerable to the old, well-known and readily available “exploits”, which are being used by attackers,” says Kaspersky Lab anti-virus expert Roman Unuchek.
